“I do regard spinning and weaving as a necessary part of any national system of education.”― Mahatma Gandhi
The Swadeshi Movement which was launched on 7 August, 1905 had significance for the self-sufficiency of Indian Economy and stressed on domestic production of goods, encouraging the people of India to wear clothes which were handwoven by indigenous communities. To commemorate the 110th anniversary of Swadeshi Movement, the Union government had decided to celebrate August 7 as National Handloom Day every year, in 2015. Through this day, we pay respect to the handloom-weaving community and mark their contribution in the development and prosperity of the nation.
