The Quit India Movement is also known as the August Movement. It was started on 8th August 1942 at the Bombay session of the All India Congress Committee by Mahatma Gandhi during World War II, demanding to end the British rule in India. The Quit India movement is significant in the Indian freedom struggle because it laid stress on the essence of the spirit of Indian nationalism, which was a need at that hour. The movement gave the slogans 'Quit India' for the British and "Do or Die" for the people of India. It was a peaceful non-violent movement According to the Congress ideology, which aimed at coaxing the British to grant independence to India.
